Step One: Have a plan

A plan that will achieve your goals

3stepsone

Poor performing websites can often be attributed to a lack of clear goals, tools or targeting.

Do you know what you want to acheive?

  • Do you compete on price or service?  Or do you operate in a niche?
  • Specify the role the web plays in achieving your goals - does it reflect this point of difference?
  • Does it outline how your web strategy aligns with your company vision, strategy and goals?
  • What people, process and systems must be in place to support your goals?

Do you know your audience?

  • What are their top keyword phrases?
  • Where do they come from?
  • What content is the most popular?
  • How well does it converts visitors to customers

Do you have the right tools?

  • Does the system do exactly what you need it to - no more, no less
  • It is easy to update content
  • Can you add functionality - as and when you need it
  • Are you getting value for money?
If you don't know where you're going, how will you get there?

Am I doing it right?

If you have this step firmly in place you will:

  • Know what your goals are (revenue, contacts, enquiries or action)
  • Be able to describe your target audience, their desires and motivations
  • Have a list of keywords and phrases people use to find you
  • Know what your long tail keyword phrases are and which ones convert
  • Be presenting your brand accurately
  • Know what they competition are doing and how to bet them
  • Have someone with the right skills devoted to your website.
  • Have the technology and tools to do the job
  • Be measuring what people are doing on your site - where they came from and where they are going
  • Have a plan to increase the number of visitors you get and how many of them buy
