Usability

If your website is easy to use, you will increase your conversion rate - which means:

  • People will buy what you're selling
  • People will contact you
  • People will sign up for your newsletter, community group or cause
  • Existing customers won't contact you because you've answered their question.
  • Or they'll do whatever else you want them to do on your site

A design is user-centered if it can answer "yes" to the question, "If I come here to do X, can I accomplish it quickly without much thought or effort?"

What we can do

We can assist with Usability assessments or general advice and consulting.

Website usability means building a site which is easy for users. Unfortunately this is often overlooked.

Key elements:

  • User centricity - the needs of the user are paramount
  • Ease of navigation - it is easy to get around and find things on the site
  • Clean design - uncluttered pages. Good use of white space without competing visuals. Good text and background contrast and a consistent font designed to be read on screen
  • Functionality that works - no broken links, forms that don't work, bugs or errors
  • Minimal effort - no unnecessary clicks, OK buttons, downloads or registration requirements

Why it is overlooked:

  • Competing goals - particularly from sales and marketing or IT
  • Desire to look cool, flash or sexy
  • Usability experts who are their own worse enemy by being overly zealous
  • Underlying technology constrains the design
  • Lack of budget
  • Lack of awareness or 'it's easy for me' sentiments

How to know if you have a problem:

  • High bounce rates (people come to the site and leave straight away)
  • Low conversion rates (lots of traffic but no sales)
  • Abandoned shopping carts
  • Complaints from users

Usability assessments

3x3cube6Usability is about how easy your site is to use - and this impacts directly on your conversion rate.

This assessment is a comprehensive review that looks at over 150 individual components that contribute to a site's ease of use.

Suitable for e-commerce sites or sites that have registration and/or application processes.

Why do one?

  • If customers complain it's hard to use your site or they can't find anything.
  • If you are thinking about redesigning your site to make it easier to use.
  • To reduce the bounce rate - i.e. Keep your visitors on your site.
  • To improve you conversion rate - ie how many people who come to the site actually 'buy' something
  • Also suitable for intranets.

Deliverables: A report highlighting strengths and areas needing improvement with recommendations.

Cost: $900.00 plus GST.
